5 Step Model

July 31, 2003

[John Wimber]Last night, Kay did a bang-up job teaching our home group the five-step model for healing prayer developed by John Wimber. I am amazed at how few people in Vineyard churches have actually learned this stuff, when it’s a big part of our heritage. Two people besides me & Kay had had at least some training, but it was brand-new for the other five.

Kay did this seminar for each of the Vineyards in Japan a few years ago, but for me, this was the first time I’ve been through it since we found our first Vineyard 12 years ago, so it was good for me even though I’ve been praying for people for years. The real fun of the training is the clinic, of course — where you actually “do the stuff”. We broke into two groups, with Kay coaching the gang through the five steps. God did his thing (which is always a relief, because it’s a little scary). Mike said afterwards that this took him way outside of his comfort zone, but that it was good for him. Yeah, cross-training!

Note that this training is normally done as a class offered by the larger church — but we did it in our home group. I’m kind of proud of that.

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

  1. Very cool. I dig the 5 step model. Structured…yet flexible.

  2. very cool… checking it out…

  3. If you’re interested in learning this stuff, do yourself a favor and find a Vineyard nearby, and ask them. One of the things that John Wimber instilled in the Vineyard was the desire to give it away, to bless other churches.
But whatever you do, don’t just read about it and try it on your own. Not because you’ll do something harmful — but because you’ll miss the “clinic”, which is by far the best part of the training.

  4. Hi,
I have been getting hits on our site from your pages so I took a look to see where they are coming from – evidently the piece on the 5step model. I have taken the original page down now as we have reworked the site but I have stuck the content up again now in a simple form if you want to link: http://www.riversidevineyard.com/5step.asp
