Come, thou long expected Jesus
Born to set thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation,
Hope of all the earth thou art;
Dear desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.

The first Sunday of Advent usually sneaks by me because I associate the Christmas season with December. But this year I was reminded by a friend’s Facebook status. Later today I will get out our Advent candles, and in the evening follow our homegrown ritual which I outline here.

Christ will come again. In the meantime, there’s plenty of work to do, eh?

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.
