Bono at The Journey!

Bono at National Prayer BreakfastLast Sunday, Bono spoke in our church. No kidding! Well, he wasn’t actually there, but he had a video message for us. OK, it wasn’t specifically for us. But it was moving to hear his message in the context of our Sunday gathering.

Let me back up.

Back in December, the Journey hosted a benefit breakfast for AIDS relief in Africa. At that time it was announced that Jason (who heads the international impact team) and Jeff (the lead pastor) were planning to make a trip to Africa to see things for themselves and meet the people involved.

They were gone for 2 weeks. Now they’re back. And the church is cranking things up, like showing the Bono video (a lot like the one I shared two months ago). Once again, I was faced with the question: So what do we do?

Today we began to explore some possible answers.

This is really cool. It’s great to see you so fired up about this very important topic. I’ve had a lot of respect for years for Bono for how passionately he has dedicated himself to this cause, instead of being someone who goes for the “benefit of the moment.” I do believe we can all make a difference.

Cheralyn, thanks for the encouraging words. I’ve heard Bono’s message before but always felt at a loss as to how to respond. I am excited by the ways our faith community is exploring this and giving me specific handles I can grab on to.
