Bono Speaks

March 11, 2005

Bono hologramEveryone knows that Bono is becoming more influential, gaining audiences with world leaders, etc. But it never occurred to me that this means he is not only passionate, but an excellent communicator. Bono recently spoke from a podium as a hologram to a conference of USAmerican tech leaders; check it out. You won’t see much of the hologram itself. But you may get something much more valuable. (Link via Mike Todd.)

Update: A transcript (via fellow Vineyard blogger Templa la Vida) revealed that my first video link was a shorter, edited version. The link above has been amended to the full presentation.

I don’t have time to watch the whole thing now. But later, why don’t we each pull up a chair and have some church?

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

  1. Right on, Jon. Thanks for the links… I’m going to update my post as well.

  2. Nice way to invite viewers! I’ll be streaming it tonight on the sofa! Nice to hear from you Jon.

  3. Preach it pastor Bono! Some lines I liked:
“This is not about charity, it’s about justice.”
“‘Cause this is not all about heart. We have to be smart here…”
“Poverty breeds despair. We know this. Despair breeds violence. We know this. In turbulent times, isn’t it cheaper and smarter to make friends out of potential enemies than to defend yourself against them later?”
“History, like God, is watching what we do.”
