Tidbits from the conference

May 19, 2003

[Vineyard Northwest]Here are random tidbits from the conference:

  • Randy Knutson held up a copy of Emerging Church and said, “I want to make this required reading. This is a good book. But it’s also lacking something: when it talks about church, it’s really talking about church services. Hello? …But I do recommend it.”
  • “You don’t need to read the latest stuff from Warren, etc. Here’s a book that’s 20 years old: A Long Obedience in the Same Direction by Eugene Peterson. Eugene says he went back to update the book in order to keep it relevant, and decided to leave it as it was.”
  • “God will do through you what he does in you.”
  • Randy kept repeating, “Come away, my beloved. Though you sleep, yet your heart will be wakened.” He stressed the importance of personal retreats. “I dare you to take a half-day of prayer.”

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

Love the quote, “Come away with me…”
I might have to use that. =)
