“How come you don’t?” (Mark 2:18-22 lectio)

Mark 2:18-22 lectio: How come you guys don’t follow the religious practice of ____? As I tell my friends, religion as a set of practices eliminates the need for God; you just do the do’s, and don’t do the don’ts (whatever they happen to be), and you’re cool. …But God wants us to interact with him.

And isn’t it reassuring to remember that Jesus was a religious maverick, with eyes only for the Father? (Yes, Todd Hunter, you are in good company.)
