Last night’s home group gathering pretty much followed our plan, which was to discuss spiritual gifts. Well, now that I think about it, there wasn’t that much discussion — mainly me flipping through various scriptures and talk, talk, talking. It wasn’t bad talking, but it was me. Talking.
After some worship, instead of getting any specific words from God and praying for each other, it turned into a prayer meeting. …And I mean that in a good way, a really good prayer meeting. But then it was past 9:30, so Kay & I said that was all, and anyone was free to leave, but everyone was free to stay.
What’s funny is that everyone stayed; it’s like we had a second meeting, until we kicked everyone out at 11:00, and the second meeting was better than the first! I wish I knew how to make that happen without having to go through the first meeting. Maybe I just need to get out of the way.
Teddy shared about going to Santa Cruz with a group that had invited him to play guitar on the streets. They had a drum circle, and set up signs: Free Prayer. Free Healing. Spiritual Guidance. They spoke words of knowledge over people, and laid on hands to pray. Teddy said there was a line of people, waiting to be prayed for!
One curious observation he made was that it was easy to move in power in that situation, much easier than in a church. I suppose it’s kind of like the grace that you get on a short-term missions trip: the stuff just happens, even though nothing seems to happen at home. …Could it be because the Holy Spirit isn’t interested in our churches, and he’s walking the streets instead?
