It’s been a long, long time since I posted my last recording. Too long. The only times I used Pro Tools in the last two-and-a-half years was for slapping together rough, rough cuts of the songs I wrote for church, to give the band an idea of what I wanted.
My guitar calluses have became soft since our last church closed its doors four months ago. Mike A. challenged me to get off my butt this week. So here you go: Losing Touch. (And in case you weren’t here two-and-a-half years ago, the last one was Focused.)

I like it! This one’s going on the ‘pod.
sounds really good. how much of that is live and how much is programmed? the bass has a very interesting sound, kinda fretlessy.
Kevin,
Really? I honestly don’t expect anyone to listen to it more than once. You flatterer!
Nathan,
I’m not a drummer, so I just arranged drum loops. But everything else is me playing it. I ran my (fretted) bass through a Boss BR-8 recorder, not to record it, but because it has a really nice “fretless” effect that gives it that warm buzz. I’ve looked around for a bass pedal that will do the same thing, but the only thing I’ve found online is the Zoom B2. I went around to local merchants in order to hear it, but none of them had one.
You’re a bass guy, ain’tcha? Have you ever used effects?
somehow when i’ve played in “church worship bands” [for lack of a better term], i’ve always played bass, but i’m primarily a guitarist. i also am relearning to play piano and am a casual drummer. because i’m mostly a rock ‘n’ roller, i tend to steer clear of effects other than overdriving the amp and nice, thick reverb.
Ironically, an opportunity to “get off your butt” and do it live has arisen.
December 10th… need a guitar. You interested?
Sorry I can’t play the 10th! And that was the main reason I dropped in last night, to get a feel for how practices work. Ah well. I had fun!
The upcoming manifesto series made me think of this:
