Online Lenten Devotional

February 9, 2005

Journey to the CrossToday is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. I have been wondering what to do during these 40 days, and thanks to Rich, I have something: Journey to the Cross, an online devotional.

The navigation on this site is somewhat confusing. Here are some tips:

Click on “Your first visit” at the bottom. From there, click on “next” in the bottom right to get an overview of the format, with suggestions on how to use each section. The important thing is not to rush through each day’s posting.

…Just learned something from jonnybaker: If you count the number of days from now to Easter, you end up with more than 40. That’s because the Sundays are not included in the count.

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

  1. Unless you’re Eastern Orthodox. Then you start Lent on the Monday of the 7th week before Easter and end it on the Friday 9 days before Easter. Sundays are counted.
