Pray your cell phone

October 5, 2006

Pray-CellI think I have discovered an exciting new way to pray: Pray your cell phone. Here’s how:

1. You have your cell phone set up so you can see your phone book with a single push of a button, don’t you? Do it.

2. Start with the person (or institution) at the top. Pray for God to bless them. Pray as long as you want. When you are ready to pray for the next person, just navigate down.

3. Try to finish up a single letter before you stop; that way, it’s easier to continue next time. For example, if you pray for everyone in your phone book whose name starts with C, then next time you want to pray you just jump down to the Ds.

I have had fun praying for my friends and family in this way as I walk or drive. Give it a try, and let me know how it works for you!

(This is actually the second use of my cell phone for prayer. The first is described here.)

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

  1. Well, that should go quick – I think I have two numbers on my cellphone (which I use probably twice a month) that Randall programmed in….when it comes to phone use, I am so definitely not 21st Century…

  2. In that case, maybe you’d better pray your Rolodex. 😉
But the problem is when we used to use our Rolodex, it was stuffed with every person we’d ever crossed paths with. What I discovered about my cell phone is that I keep it trimmed, so it contains a decent list of the people I care about. And actually, yesterday Yellow asked me to add her cell phone number so that I would pray for her!

  3. I never thought of this before! What a dandy idea! 🙂 Now I’ll have something to do during loooong drives and when stuck in traffic especially..

  4. Yes Kryx, it’s great for driving! I put my prayer music on too — if you have an iPod, you might try making a “Prayer” playlist.
