Prayer for humility

August 27, 2007

When I am misunderstood, help me not to lash back.

When I have had my say, help me not to have the last word.

When others see things differently, help me to remember their context.

When I am enthusiastic, help me not to practice human sacrifice.

When others succeed, help me to celebrate.

When I am discouraged, remind me that you will accomplish your purposes.

When I am lonely, help me not to pity myself.

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

  1. amen brother. I really like the ‘human sacrifice’ one! 😉

  2. Heh. Perhaps I should explain the term: it refers to any time we place religion ahead of people — especially one’s own family.

  3. awww, and I thought literal would’ve been cooler! I figured that was what was implied though.
