Soliton Sessions

September 6, 2004

[soliton ripples]Tomorrow morning, Mike & I hit the road and drive down to The Soliton Sessions. Wow, when I went last year, I still had a job. I remember telling my friends at work that I was going on a pilgrimage, because “I’m going to a conference” doesn’t capture it. It was a long trip I made as a spiritual discipline, to draw closer to God — a pilgrimage.

Yesterday I spoke on the phone with former (and future?) blogger Jared. And now I remember that the best part of The Sessions is not the incredible worship in a great venue, or the mind-blowing talks — it’s hanging out together, getting to know some wonderful people, letting our journeys towards God and with God cross and overlap.

Is Jared’s butt really better-looking now that he has lost 60 pounds? Will his lovely wife Regina inspire me to new directions in worship-leading again? Are Jeph and Greg as nutty as their blogs indicate, and as we crash on Jared & Regina’s floor, will we get all snuggly in the middle of the night dreaming about our wives?

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

  3. Are you gonna make it to Ben and Jerry’s – Tuesday Night?
    cheers,

  4. I can’t! We’re having an important meeting at 7:00 that I can’t miss. 🙁
    …Next time?

  5. Yeah – it looks like Tuesdays is a bad choice for meetup? Maybe we should look for a Monday or Wednesday, next month? How about Kapp’s Pizza, Mountain View, 6 PM?
A good thing to start discussion might be Don Carlson’s critique of emergent churches?

  6. Yes, I think it might be worth trying a day other than Tuesday, since we have had exactly 0 Tuesday gatherings.
