Strange things are afoot in SoCal

February 28, 2005

DisneylandLast week we took a break from life and went down to SoCal for just a couple of days, mainly as a pilgrimage to the Temple of the Great Mouse. (Sorry Jared, you’re just that far out of the way when we have a carful of kids. Miss you guys.)

DisneylandBut what has happened to Southern California? The weather reminded me of rainy season in Japan! We went to Disneyland equipped with ponchos and spare clothing, but thankfully we didn’t get a drop that day.

Local news:

  • Heavy rains cause boulder to crash into bedroom, killing 16-year-old girl
  • Massive sinkhole opens in highway, killing civil engineer
  • Tiger loose in Ventura County

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

  1. Whoa!! We were just there Jon! We came home on Wed. 2/23, the one day there was no rain. I fully intended on being one of those people with the camcorder missing the moment, but our camcorder got stolen on the trip down. Which is probably ok, because our kids got sick while we were there and they just aren’t as cute with that glaze of snot that coats their upper lip.
After reading the above synopsis, I bet you’re sorry you missed us, eh? (We did have a good time, though)

  2. Great picture of you and Kay! (The thing in pirates looks sort of like E.T. to me 😉
