T minus 7

This morning was our last time to have a full band. It was recorded, and wow, I have to say I have a lot of respect for people who can do a live gig so well that the recording doesn’t suck! All mistakes, slippery notes, and poor tone are laid bare. You kind of had to be there.

Still, I had to make a 5-minute montage—a memorial, I guess. (Squeezing 36 minutes of music down to 5 was tricky.) So, for whatever it’s worth, here it is (4.6 MB).

I dig the sexy background vocalist! (That would be Kay.) And Mike making his freaky sounds on guitar—what can I say, dude, you make me look good and bring my visions to life. Thanks Rob, Zac and Kim, everyone else in the band, all the sound engineers, and the computer folks displaying the words and choosing imagery to go with them: it has been a joy.

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

  1. I know what you mean about live recording. I’ve done just enough to cringe at the thought. Your compilation sounds great, though, so I don’t know what you’re complaining about.

  2. It doesn’t sound as bad as that from the poor choir mikes at the baptist church… somehow the worst off key people were always placed below them as they hung from the cieling. My dad ran sound, and sometimes he would secretly turn them off it was so bad. 🙂

  3. Great to hear! 🙂 🙂

  4. Yeah, I confess to having done some ‘creative’ mixing while doing sound at our church too… third vocalist? *What* third vocalist??? 🙂
This sounds great though for what it is — wish I could have heard it live!
