When my son says, “I know how to draw a church,” it is clear to me that the word church has been completely co-opted. I just entered “church” into an online dictionary, and the definition in the #1 spot is, “A building for public, especially Christian worship.” Besides the many negative connotations that people associate with “church,” the language defines it as a building.
Why fight the language? Let’s not storm around insisting that the dictionary is wrong; abandon the word.
