The End Is Near

August 2, 2004

[the end is near]Kay & I are shutting down our home group. Because it’s not going well? No, because it’s going really well.

The group is used to having us lead — but as long as we do, others won’t step up to the plate. We’ve been prepping them on this for a couple months, teaching the entire group what’s involved in leading. Sherree, Mike and David have each tried their hand at running a meeting. We are, according to Jan, pushing the fledglings out of the nest. Bwark!

Recently, Sherree began leading our church’s high school home group. David was called as a church elder, and is planning on starting a bi-weekly group studying issues of grace. We haven’t yet shut down and we’re already seeing some fruit!

This week, John will take the helm and run our gathering. Then next week, we will have our last “regular” meeting. It should be a neat time of celebrating communion, looking back on the past year, sharing stories, laughing, reflecting. And finally on the 18th, we’re going out with a bang, a potluck / pool-party.

“And wither then? I cannot say.”

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

  1. The end is very exciting. Only because it forces a beginning.. 🙂

  2. Hi Jon –

I too like your new pic!

  4. Kreek’t, that’s exactly what we intend. I guess Kay & I are of the school of thought that says, “If it’s not broken… break it!”
Andrea, don’t be a stranger, even in cyberspace! 😉
