Too many blogs…

December 10, 2003

[hedge trimming]…and not enough time. Many people think of “blogging” as simply “keeping an online journal,” but it really involves reading as much as writing. It’s a conversation, not a monologue. And there are so many wonderful blogs out there that my reading list grew. And grew. It began to overwhelm me as I spent more time reading and had no time left to write. …And I still have a few things I want to say!

So I have trimmed down my list. I hope nobody takes offense. If you have a link to me, I will still read you from time to time via Technorati — just not every day. This is not goodbye!

On another note, I have been very pleased to see that more and more blogs these days are supporting RSS syndication via XML. This makes it much easier for me to keep up with what you write, because I don’t have to go out to your blog to see if there’s something new — a program does it for me. If you need assistance, I will gladly help you add RSS support to your blog, as it will save me time in the long run. (Birgit, this means you.)

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

  1. Ya know, I actually looked at a site that was supposedly about adding RSS – but it seemed to be in a foreign language, or might as well have been….so yeah, any help would be appreciated!!

  4. Birgit, an email is coming your way.
Eric, you have it. Thank Mr. Hale for his work.

  5. Congratulations to Birgit, who now has an RSS feed! It may not mean a thing to you, but it sure helps me!

  6. Oh man! I didn’t make the cut!! Oh well, I think I’ll live….;^). Seriously though, I know exactly what you are talking about. Too true! Blogging is more then just writing in a journal. It is indeed a conversation. Koinonia in the blogosphere if you will. I’ve been horrendously busy of late and it’s been extremely hard to make my usual rounds reading the blogs of my friends.
I may have to follow suit and pare down my links pretty soon if I can’t find the time. We’ll see.

  7. Any tips on the RSS feed. I know I could figure it out if I just devoted enough time to it – however if you have the talent, I’m happy to rely on it!

  8. Congratulations to Luke who, like Birgit, succeeded in using blogmatrix to add an RSS feed. 🙂
