[Watchmen]In the end, it was a good thing I didn’t go to the Allelon yacking, eating, movie-watching weekend — I would have spent the entire time sick on the couch. I was starting to feel tired at our gathering Wednesday evening, and gradually went downhill from there.

Saturday, I spent the whole day in bed, either sleeping or reading Watchmen — a “comic book”, but not for the kids. It’s a novel, a whodunnit. A review on the back says, “The first truly post-modern super-hero comic.” If you like Babylon 5 and how it unfolds a story of epic proportions (but it doesn’t seem that way at first), or how you notice the significance of past events (but only when you watch a second time), check it out. I’ve read it several times, and still keep discovering little details, like the way the “splotch” pictured on the cover keeps appearing here, and there, and there…

As an American missionary kid who grew up in Japan, I'm a child of two cultures, while not fully belonging to either. This gives me a sightly different view of the world.

  1. I, too, read Watchmen…or did briefly. I never owned any. I’m impressed to see you read it. You just made me want to post about my comic collection. 🙂

  2. Wow! The Watchmen!!! Now that’s a title that takes me back! Definitely a cult classic. It’s been so long though.
    Well, bon appetit’, Jon!
