Working vacation

April 21, 2006

I am saving up my vacation time for a trip to Hawaii this summer. So when Kay said she was heading to SoCal to visit her parents, my parents (who just moved south 3 weeks ago), and Disneyland, I thought I would have to send the fam on without me. But I don’t like being alone and really wanted to see my parents in their new place.

So I tried my hand at a “working vacation,” and it worked! I took Wednesday off for the drive down. On Thursday, Kay & kids went to Disneyland, while I worked — but I had lunch and dinner with my folks. I figured Friday would be more interrupted (and I was right), so I put in some extra work on Thursday. Tomorrow we drive home. Yeah, it sucks to work, but it’s good to know that I can do it if I have to.

And now my parents live down the street from Kay’s parents, a 5-minute walk. How cool is that? Did I mention that they are old friends?

(I just wish we had time to duck over to be with Jared & Regina. But I need to get back to lead the Sunday morning thing. I guess I need to figure out what I’m doing before then.)
